Welcome to BVMS! I am excited to begin the new school year and to get to know each you! There are a few things to know as parents that will help you as you navigate the middle school years.

First, Be sure to get your user ID and password for Skyward which is our parent/student information website. From this site you can do everything from checking your lunch account balance to your child’s current grades along with any missing assignments that he or she may need to get finished. If you don’t know yours, please stop in to the office and one of the secretaries will be able to help you. Skyward is a tool to help us ‘keep tabs’ on your child and know exactly how they are doing.

The school day places many demands on the time we have available to keep up with homework. Whether your child is involved in RtI, chorus, band or both (which is something that we very much encourage), they will miss some or all of their study hall time on the days that they are involved in those activities. If you feel your child is struggling with homework completion, please don't hesitate to let me know.  I will always be available for after school help unless I have a scheduled meeting.

Second, Remind your child to fill out his or her assignment planner and check it daily. This doesn’t always ensure that they are being truthful when they tell you they have no homework, but it shows them that you care whether they have it completed or not. You can also check each teacher’s lesson plans for the day by going to the BVMS website, http://brandonvalley.k12.sd.us/bvms/, clicking on ‘Student’ and then clicking on ‘Lesson Plans’. This will bring up a list of teachers. Just click on the name of your child’s teacher and find the lesson plan for the day. If you any questions or concerns about homework completion or your child not understanding in class.

Fourth, Please contact me with any concerns or questions you have. There are times when things happen and a student may not say anything until they go home. I am here to help make this transition easier for both you and your child and am ready to help in any way that I can. Even if it is just that your child is feeling scared or anxious about being in school and needs someone to touch base with them more often throughout the day, I can do that!
